Treemaps are used to show a part-to-whole relationship or hierarchy. They are essentially a squared version of a pie chart. These are more useful than pie charts when showing many categories since the rectangles are often easier to compare than the angles in a pie cart. Like pie charts these are not used for precise comparison.

Treemap may be mono colored, colored by category, or diverging colors based on value.
